Ok so I had a blog before blogs were in… and then I got lazy. I was talking to a friend that said recounting your experiences, especially with your faith, can help you rediscover them when times aren’t so good.. so I decided to put it out for everyone to read.
I don’t know that I’m in such a mood to get really deep right at this moment… and I don’t intend for every post here to be deep and meaningful, but I do hope it serves as interesting reading and maybe a few people will have some changes of mind and heart and that would be amazing.
So my weekend was consumed by running, car shopping, and church. Put on 18 miles yesterday morning, going for a recovery run shortly. In case anyone doesn’t know me and got here by mistake, I am in my 2nd year as a pretend serious marathon runner. :-) Really, I have a shot to qualify for Boston this year (3:10) and the work has been pretty tough. But yesterday was the best run of the summer and has really lifted my spirits heading toward October and my first fall marathon.
I am also in the car market. I will probably be purchasing a Honda Element in the next week or so. There are two reactions, wow and ugh. I think the cars are quite spiffy looking and amazingly functional… not to mention they have every feature basically that I want in a car, even the little goofy things like the MP3 Player Jack, and get better gas mileage than my current coupe. I’ll be sure to add a picture when I have one.
Got to serve on camera this morning at church, had a great time. Have to admit I got a little tired in the legs during second service after that 18 yesterday but I survived like a warrior. :-) The subject this morning was whether you can lose your salvation. Bill’s argument mirrored something I have always thought but could never put the ideas into a coherent hypothesis. Basically, the answer is that you can lose your salvation. However, if you’re a true believer… you won’t lose your salvation. I guess I always thought about it in this sense: You cannot lose your salvation… if you truly have obtained it by God’s grace. There are many of us who think we have it, and think we have a real relationship with God, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we have it. I think I have been a prime example. I know I still lack my public profession, but I hope to take care of that very soon.
However, Bill used scripture from Hebews that shows, in fact, that a Christian that has had a relationship with Christ can lose their salvation, namely through apostacy which exists through free will (Openly rejecting Christ.)
So the question is, do you really have that relationship? I think there are many things to look for to determine that answer, but the easiest way is to listen to that little voice inside your head. When you hear a Christian who is in touch speak of his relationship.. you may act and tell those around you that you feel the same way… but only you and God know what’s really in your mind, the doubts and the worry… I can only give you this advice. If you want to be a disciple of Jesus, and deep in your mind, you really don’t think you are.. you’re only hurting yourself by pretending. There’s nothing wrong with asking God to help you make it right. Go to church and let Him work on your heart. Come to mine. It’d be awesome.
Ok, so a little deep and meaningful. :-) Everyone be blessed, later gaters
